Hi peoples, I am Dave the Great and Fallible pay no attention to the guy @ the keyboard. this is intended as a way to question things in society as I honestly think that there is no single right answer for most of these topics, I am wanting responses!!!! If you know me and I am wong be my friend, respect me as I do pride myself on my intelligence and correct me. I am posing these statements for 2 reasons I need intellectual stimulation, and I am confused on my stance on a lot of issues. I was raised in a moderately conservative family and even though I still want to be a “conservative” at heart I am finding a lot of what seems to be good ideas on the “evil liberal” side. My thought is, sides shouldn’t matter, as my current political alignment is X=Y. (if you don’t get this ask and I’ll graph it for you) right side or wrong side what matters is what the out come of those thoughts are.
This brings me to my title, “Right and Wrong are Just Words, What Matters is What You Do.”
this is a reference to an episode of “Futurama” “The Godfellas” in which First bender was god then he met God. Among other things God told him that, “Right and Wrong are Just Words, What Matters is What You Do.” You should all go out and watch a completely legal copy of this episode. As Futurama was actually a show that was worth some thing. (I hope the screen writers strike does not get resolved as I have seen so few new ideas on television and movies I am not convinced that most of them ever wrote anything)
Now for what I actually wanted to talk about:
This morning I got up early to watch a series of videos on my-space about the up coming Presidential primaries. http://www.myspace.com/election2008 For once I want to feel after I vote the I am still as happy with my choice as I was before I voted.
it shames me that we have invested billions in rebuilding something that was relatively stable and even though they were breaking international laws (IE weapons of mass destruction possession [at least then we had a clue where they were, lack of recovery only proves we didn't find what we thought was there {IE nothing}]) before we got involved. (Yes, I think at this time it would be wrong to just pull out [the pull out method never works]) We could have been instead looking at the Sudan where there is a genocide being performed. I’m going to get all preachy just posing the question who do you go after the guy who keeps an illegal fire arm under his mattress for “self defence” or the guy with a hunting rifle who shoots bystanders?
Back to the up coming primaries I have just watched all the videos for John Edwards and though I question a few of his ideas I am scared at how much seance he makes on things like tax structure, health care and education. If he successfully pursues things in the manor he is claiming I don’t know if he could get any of these measures passed through congress.
The health care is a very personal issue to me because first of it might mean the loss of my job. However last spring I had to go to the emergency room because I was basically chocking (I don’t know exactly what to call the condition so that it is easily explainable) any way for a health emergency I was charged over $1300 (not that I am not grateful it did save my live) for a few x-rays and a six minute procedure. My employer at the time who is one of the largest employers in the country did not offer me health care because I worked on average 2-4 hours a week less then required for full time benefits. the other problem was that I was and still am a non-traditional college student and did not have the open availability to get those extra hours. My point is I am guessing that this is just a minor sob story compared to what other people could tell.
So the question is what is the right thing, is it in the governments best interest to help its people stay healthy? Well obviously if you are not able to work you are going to drain money from the nations resources as doctors are always required to provide services, but even if you can’t pay they can still bankrupt you for doing so.
So mandating universal coverage seems a good thing. but a restructuring like this could possibly lose a lot of people my self included jobs. No I don’t care about the insurance companies as they are all out to make money by essentially requiring you to gamble. In order to stay healthy. the executives of these companies are going to stay rich and move to other companies where I am concerned is for the people who man the phones and do the computer work for the people who sell these plans these people like my self are proud to be in a position to help people stay healthy (even though I feel a little like I am sleeping with the devil to do so) What about these peoples incomes the company I work for is currently expanding at such a rate that if all goes as planned it could be one of the largest and best paying employers in Southern Indiana this is providing a lot of desperately needed jobs to an area that seems to me to be fairly impoverishes and ignored. So any way I feel torn on this topic.
